United States Budget Deficit

The government's budget deficit has been expanding exponentially since the beginning of the 21st century.  Citizens have watched in dismay as our country spends trillions of dollars and borrows trillions more.
The budget is split into two major areas.  Mandatory spending such as : Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security and some other ones that can only be modified by changing the existing policies.  Then there is discretionary spending which is filled with all the other programs that are funded by the government such as: Planned Parenthood, certain military operations, multiple governmental agencies and other programs that are debated in arbitration each year.
Through various mediums, citizens have started voicing their opinions and concerns over the countries seemingly deep pockets.  Political cartoonists and concerned citizens post or publish their ideas of where and how our money is being spent.  As citizens of the U.S. we should have a say in what our tax dollars are being spent on and not what pleases our elected officials and their personal agendas.

Where does our tax money go? Just how much debt do we have?
